Wire Mesh / Cloth

Comax is able to supply prime engineered Fine and Superfine woven wire mesh / wire cloth made from ferrous or non-ferrous materials.

Wire mesh can be manufactured from almost any metal or alloy, choice of material depends on the customer application. The usual parameters are the finished materials strength, chemical and abrasion resistance heat transfer corrosion resistance etc.

The size of mesh can vary from a few microns to hundreds of microns. The mesh size and wire diameter can vary with the customer application.

Wire Mesh / Cloth Applications

Only the Engineers imagination limits the uses for Wire Mesh / Cloth

Filtering              Particle retention

Sieving              Classification

Sizing               Shielding

Wire Mesh / Cloth Materials

Below we list some of the more usual material used in the manufacture of Mesh / Woven cloth

Wire Mesh : Stainless Steels

304 / 304L (Low Carbon) 18%Cr  8% Ni
Outdoor applications without rusting and resists oxidation up to 1400 Degree F the lower carbon material is used because of its better weaving and welding characteristics.
309 23%Cr 12% Ni
Heat resistant up to 1700 deg F
310
Used where toughness at high temperature is specified, lower coefficient of expansion than most CrNi Alloys
316 / 316L  (Low Carbon) 18%Cr  8%Ni  2% Mo

Additional resistance to Salt water, corrosion resistance etc than 304.

The 316L again better weaving characteristics

317 18%Cr  14%Ni 3% Mo
Similar to basis 18% Cr but with higher Ni content of 14% and Molybdenum 3%

Greater corrosion resistance

Other Materials             321, 330, 347

 Magnetic Alloys             410 ,430

Wire Mesh : Aluminium and Aluminium Clad Steel

The properties of Aluminium light weight, basic high corrosion resistance, no staining due to salt leakage makes Aluminium a good choice of mesh material. However the lack of strength and problems if used in an electrolytic medium can be a problem.

 Materials -   Al 1000, 2000, 5000 series, 6000 series

Wire Mesh : Copper and its Alloys

Copper

Both tough pitch and Oxygen free Copper are widely used for mesh.

Copper exhibits Non magnetic, high thermal conductivity and excellent electrical properties it also has good resistance atmospheric pollution and salt water. However its use is limited by low tensile strength, and low abrasion resistance.

Brass

Both 70/30 and 80/20 are used where high abrasion resistance is needed. Brass also exhibits better corrosion resistance than Copper.

Bronze and Phosphor Bronze

These materials are used where high corrosion resistance is specified.

Wire Mesh : Nickel & Nickel Alloys

Nickel is used where excellent corrosion resistance, good electrical conductivity and good thermal transfer are required.

Nickel is used in food and drug mesh applications, Many combinations of other materials are used to change or enhance the characteristics of the base material.

Copper, Chrome, Iron.

Specific alloys: Monel 400, 600. Hastelloy, Inconel 600, NiCr 80, 60, etc

These all have differing application.

Wire Mesh : Gold, Silver, Titanium and Noble Metals

Comax are able to supply Fine and Superfine mesh for chemical, Aerospace application. Details are available on request
